Not only will you be doing you, your family and pets a favor, you’ll be making a positive contribution to the environment!

Waste left uncollected in your yard is a breeding ground for bacteria and disease-carrying pests, and ruins the appearance of your property. Furthermore, dog feces are a significant contributor to ground water pollution. Regular cleaning-up after your pets will keep your family, pets and yard safer from disease, will yield a better-looking yard, and will help keep our water supply healthier. A few of the diseases that can be contracted from your canine’s waste include:

  • Campylobacteriosis – a bacterial infection, causing diarrhea in humans.
  • Salmonellosis – most common bacterial infection transmitted from animals to humans.
  • Toxocarists – roundworms transmitted from animals to humans.

Waste left uncollected inside your home’s litter boxes is also breeding grounds for disease and can create unpleasant environments for you, your family and guests. Most disturbing is the recent discovery of the effects of cat litter and waste being flushed down toilets. About one-quarter of last year’s sea otter fatalities have been traced to a pair of protozoan parasites, Tosoplasma gondii and Sarcocystis neuroma, which are known to breed in cats and opossums. The sea otter is often referred to as the bay’s “canary in a coalmine” – let’s keep Monterey Bay and the entire ocean safe for all of our creatures by cleaning up responsibly after our pets here on land.
